This International Women’s Day, I find myself reflecting on my journey as a business owner over the past 15 years with Bike n Blend. Like many women in business, my path has been rewarding, challenging, energising—and at times, demanding in ways I never anticipated.
When I started Bike n Blend, the vision was simple but ambitious: to create a business that brought together health, sustainability, and fun. What I have learned over the years is that a strong idea is only the beginning. The real magic—and the real work—comes from the people who help bring that vision to life.
The Power of Building the Right Team
One of the greatest achievements of my business journey has been building teams of people who genuinely share our values.
As a woman leading a growing business, I have learned that leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It is about creating an environment where people feel trusted, supported, and proud of the work they do. When you build a team aligned with your vision, the business becomes stronger, more resilient, and far more impactful.
I am incredibly proud of the people who have worked alongside me over the years—many of them women—who have brought creativity, care, and commitment to everything we do.
Celebrating Progress, Acknowledging the Work Still Ahead
International Women’s Day is both a celebration and a reminder. We have come a long way. Women are building businesses, leading teams, innovating, and shaping industries in powerful ways. That progress deserves to be recognised and celebrated.
At the same time, the data tells us there is still work to do. Women remain underrepresented in senior leadership and CEO roles, and too often carry disproportionate loads both at work and at home.
As business owners and leaders, we have a responsibility to be part of that change. That means backing women into leadership, creating flexible and inclusive workplaces, and valuing diverse styles of leadership—not just the traditional ones.
Looking Forward
After 15 years in business, I am more committed than ever to building a company that reflects the values I believe in. One that supports health and wellbeing, operates sustainably, and creates meaningful work for the people within it.
This International Women’s Day, I celebrate the women who have supported me, worked with me, challenged me, and inspired me along the way. And I look forward to a future where women in leadership is not something we need to advocate for—it is simply the norm.
Here’s to continuing the journey, together.
